Tips on Getting a Job in the Hedge Fund / Private Equity Industry:
1. Learn about the hedge fund industry. Know what type of role you see yourself in and try to make contacts in the industry to help you understand what that role might entail. Do you want to work in a research or quantitative position or do you prefer accounting or back office roles? Of course, you should also stay abreast of broad market conditions as well those directly effecting hedge funds and private equity.
2. Keep your eye on the typical job boards - Craigslist, CareerBuilder, and Monster, as well as financial specific sites like E-Financial Careers and Vault are all good places to start.
Be persistent! High-profile investment managers are not looking for passive applicants. They want to know you are dedicated. Differentiate yourself.
3. Most hedge funds don't publicly post job openings. Many times these roles are given to personal connections or unsolicited job applicants who have sent their resumes directly. You can find a list with contact information for
hedge funds in San Francisco, or hedge funds in Los Angeles / San Diego. Looking for hedge funds in other states or regions?
